10 questions with Shelby Ann

How did you get into creating music?

From a young age, I’ve always been interested in and inspired by music. I started singing as a child, and eventually picked up the guitar as a pre-teen. When I was sixteen, I was going through an angsty teenager period of time, and turned to songwriting as an emotional escape. I fell in love with writing, and haven’t stopped since.

Where do you get your inspirations from?

Personal experiences mostly, but I also am a huge bookworm and sometimes feel inspired by the stories I read and put myself in the characters point of view.

Use three words to describe your music!

Fun, catchy, nostalgic.

What’s your favourite song of yours and why?

“Why” is my favorite of my own music. 90’s rock has always been my favorite genre, and it’s the sound I’ve always tried to capture in my songs. As soon as I wrote “Why”, I felt like it sounds the most like me and the image I want to portray as an artist.

Tell us one artist you are listening to right now!

I’ve become a huge fan of Jason Isbell, and I find myself putting his music on frequently these days.

Who would you like to collaborate with the most?

Dave Grohl. The Foo Fighters are my favorite band and Dave is a musical hero of mine. To have the chance to work with him would be the greatest honor.

Where is your favourite place you have ever performed?

Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, CA. It’s such an amazing venue and you feel invincible on that stage.

Where is the one place you dream of performing?

The Ryman in Nashville, TN. Being a songwriter, I feel like there is no better place to play. It’s a musical haven of sorts.

What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

Seeing live music come back, even if it takes awhile. It’s just nice to know there’s hope.

What are you working on next?

I can’t divulge a lot of details quite yet, but I will be releasing some music this summer.
