How did you get into creating music?
Tom, Leon and Jean went to the same school and used to play a lot together, trying to replicate the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ classics, just for fun. One day, while spending the afternoon in the city, they saw street performer Ben singing the exact same songs on a popular Frankfurt shopping mall. Impressed by his performance, they approached him, exchanged numbers and a little while later, met for the first band rehearsal. If you think love at first doesn’t exist, we’re here to prove you wrong. At least in music, it does ☺
Where do you get your inspirations from?
The simple fact to hang out together and being best friends is a major source of inspiration for our music. Hearing the others talk, spending time or having fun together sometimes is enough to find the lyrical topic for a song. Even though we enjoy the same style of music and have similar musical roots, the four of us have very different musical preferences nowadays. Altogether, it allows us to have some very interesting songwriting sessions, where many influences come across. In general, it is very inspiring to listen to as much music as possible, and preferably different genres.
Use three words to describe your music!
LISTEN TO SACROPOLIS
Just kidding, we would say: uplifting, emotional and catchy.
What’s your favorite song of yours and why?
Our favorite song is ‘The Sinner’, released back in January of this year. All of us connect very much to the song, both musically and emotionally. It features Kings of Leon-inspired guitar riffs (one of our favorite bands out there) and a very emotional vocal line, tackling the topic of a breach of trust and a respective wish for forgiveness. We feel that song a lot and would love you to listen to it and tell us what you think ☺
Tell us one artist you are listening to right now!
Right now, we have a heavy Boy Pablo phase. This guy just has no bad song. Only good vibes, very interesting guitar chords and an unconventional songwriting approach. Inspiring stuff. His clips are great too!
Who would you like to collaborate with the most?
As they are out of a job since this year, we would love to work with Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Man de Homem-Christo, the two former Daft Punk members. They have been very inspiring for us as a band through their reinvention of 70’s dance music on their record ‘Random Access Memories’. Also, they have produced several up and coming bands and might bring some amazing input to our compositions. We would love to see what this collaboration could and would look like, especially in terms of arrangement and producing.
Where is your favorite place you have ever performed?
Our favorite place to have performed is the Frankfurt club ‘Batschkapp’, where we did our biggest ever concert a few years ago. Playing there in front of our home crowd was an incredible feeling and every foreign visitor coming to Frankfurt should take the opportunity and see a concert at this legendary venue.
Where is the one place you dream of performing?
As some of us are half French, we have been assisting to concerts in the famous Parisian ‘Olympia’. To play there, where legendary French artists such as Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour have graced the audiences, would be a dream come true. In fact, the ‘Olympia’ booking is very keen to present young artists on their stage.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
We are looking forward to our next releases: on June 11th, we will release our single ‘Pepita’, which might be the summer hit of your year ☺ Then, in July, our debut EP, containing 6 songs, will finally see the light and we’re super stoked to see that happen so soon. Much work to do until then. Anyway, we hope you will be there and experience this release with us! After the release, in July and August, we will play a few shows, that will be announced soon. Stay up to date on our Instagram or our website www.sacropolis.com.
What are you working on next?
Right now, we are using the last days of lockdown wisely and spend many hours in our Frankfurt-based studio, producing new tracks and demos. We can’t wait to show the end results of our creative phase and hear your feedback. Until then, much love and stay safe!
