10 questions with Ms Ray

How did you get into creating music?

I’ve always written songs and melodies since I was very small. It’s something I’ve always done.

Where do you get your inspirations from ?

The human experience; life in all its forms, archetypes, myths, books, landscapes, other musicians, and artists!

Use three words to describe your music!

Emotional, nostalgic and comforting.

What’s your favourite song of yours and why?

Gave It Away, it was very quick and cathartic to write. I love the warm synths and build up of tension.

Tell us one artist you are listening to right now!

The Zenmenn, their new album – Enter the Zenmenn - on Music from Memory, is a delight.

Who would you like to collaborate with the most?

I love collaborating. My EP was a collaboration with producer Ali Raybould (PAL). I would love to work with Bullion, The Zenmenn, Erykah Badu, Octo Octa, Fabiana Palladino

Where is your favourite place you have ever performed?

Sheffield City Hall – it's really beautiful and has a very good energy. Sheffield audiences know how to have a good time.

Where is the one place you dream of performing?

Earth Hackney. As an audience member, I have been to some brilliant gigs there, the seated Amphitheatre feels intimate but big. I imagine it would be very special to perform there.

What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

Going to live gigs and playing live gigs. Socialising and hugging.
