10 questions with Deep Talk

How did you get into creating music?

My dad is into opera and had booked singing lessons but could never make it. I ended up taking the lessons instead and never stopped singing since. I was maybe 10.

Where do you get your inspirations from?

Usually, I’m daydreaming and coming up with some convoluted plot and characters in my head. The emotional focus of these worlds usually triggers some lyric or idea for a unique perspective. I really like long drives and running, just pulling out my phone to write down random thoughts into the same notepad note.

Use three words to describe your music!

Tense head bobbing

What’s your favourite song of yours and why?

I really like “Walking in the Park,” our next single (out April 8). I had been struggling to find the chorus for a while and was humming the verse over and over while walking in Amsterdam. I still associate the song with walking around and humming over fairytale cobblestone bridges.

Tell us one artist you are listening to right now!

Bailen! I went to the two brothers’s shows in NYU when they were a funk duo. I was initially sad they switched to a more folk vibe but their debut album is mindblowingly good with the tightest vocals.

Who would you like to collaborate with the most?

Jordan (the other half of Deep Talk) and I have been listening to The Weather Station’s new album a lot, so probably them!

Where is your favourite place you have ever performed?

I was a jazz singer at a hotel bar for a summer and that was memorable - good people and fun, late nights. I’m terrible at jazz singing, but I still miss performing there!

Where is the one place you dream of performing?

SNL! Mainly because I want to meet all the comedians.

What are you most looking forward to in 2021?

We’re planning a big concept EP release around September this year, so that’s nervewracking! I’m also excited for live shows to (safely) come back

What are you working on next?

Figuring out visuals! We have a release schedule for this year but are kind of coming up with visuals ad hoc for the singles. If any filmmakers are fans out there, hit us up!
